After 2003 it was a war built and sustained by colossal corruption agreed upon by all sides. Billions flowed into the country. The weapons makers did fine. The consultants did fine. The top tier of the sham government did super well, as did the leaders of the Taliban.

It’s a shame that they had to continue going around trying to kill each other just to keep the money coming.
