I always feel that if those people could have some contact with the wider world they would understand that they are missing opportunities for themselves and their children. But they have been very successfully isolated and then had resentments pounded into their minds.

If McCarthy becomes Speaker of the House, and none of the planners of the January 6 coup attempt are prosecuted, then the US will fragment and it may become irreparable. A mean, greedy, racist minority will have control of the House, the Supreme Court, and enough state elections to make life miserable for the majority of citizens.
