By the time that Trump was president for two years, everyone around him knew that he was a loose cannon with no morals who loved being in the spotlight but had no idea what his job was, and no intention of doing it.

The problem then, and still, is that 95% of elected Republicans still protect him from suffering any consequences. They do this so that they can continue their corrupt ways, with no regulations and no oversight.
