Don’t ignore the shift in spirit. There was relief, and also joy. People were not just happy, they needed to come out and be together to celebrate. Many, many people know that the US did not dodge a bullet, it defused a nuclear bomb that would have killed millions, ruined the economy and poisoned the world.

We have also learned. We have seen and felt the things we were about to lose. We didn’t want to push Black people to the back of the bus again. We didn’t want to put women back in the kitchen. We didn’t want to continue distrusting each other to the point where we were buying millions of guns.

We have learned, from when we had Obama, that we can’t ease-up or take anything for granted. The country has not been healed yet, and its values are still not agreed upon. We have seen how easily lies can become accepted, especially when they are linked to irrational fears.

Sadly, but what I feel to be true, is that uniting the country will be easier for Biden because he is a White guy. It was the backlash to Obama being 1/2 Black that set Trump in motion. But now we have a Black woman as VP, and the country will have time to seeing her around.

Trump, now that he is gone, can be seen as doing us all a great favor. He brought all the hate, fear, slime, and corruption out in the open. We know what we have to deal with and who has been paying to keep it going. As you said it’s not going to be easy, but what you didn’t say is that it could be a lot of fun. If we keep working together to get the right things done, and everyone does it with this spirit of compassion and joy, the others won’t want to be left out.

Dancing to Questlove is so much more fun, positive, and invigoration than chanting “Lock Her Up.”
