I agree with John E. totally Lincoln's fault. They would either be borke or begging to come back inot the union on better terms.

Their economy was based on slaves and poor, exloited white folks. The NOrth would have freed the slaves and they would have been helples. OR maybe without the North they would have developed a better economy than what they have now, but I don't think their culture allows that.
