I think the mid-terms show the true America. Americans have a strong belief in a certain kind of democracy. We like to preach that it involves universal enfranchisement, but that isn’t really true. But, we don’t want to go over the edge towards straight-forward repression and authoritarianism.

What remains a basic underlying principle of American society is that money is the basis of all decisions. The Republicans went too far in protecting the rich. They called on nationalism and racism, and then adding violence to stay in power. We can accept capitalist violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chili, Iran, Vietnam, and Korea, but not at home.

I also believe that the younger generation is beginning to panic about the world we are leaving them. They also are getting more sophisticated about what comes through social media.

For now, once again, “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
