It is ironic, and possibly tragic, that your loyalty and chain of command is being tested on the very day you graduate. All of you, who have probably worked almost your entire lives to achieve this graduation, are being used as pawns by the vanity of a man who is legally your Commander-in-Chief. He is a man who has already repeatedly demonstrated that he has no intention of ever being bound by his own oath of office. His betrayal of accountability, transparency, and truth have threatened our democracy.

He is making all of you return to campus, at a great cost, and also risking the health of all of you, as you must travel through one of the areas of the world that was most affected by the virus. He is only doing this so that he can appear to be a leader of men. In truth, when faced with challenges that demanded leadership, courage and understanding, this man either dithered and denied responsibility, or hid in a bunker, unable to lead the country. It was then that he called for the military to protect him, not the citizens of this country, the real people who count on your protection.

It is a disgrace that such a man calls on you to serve, not your country, but his own vanity.

With this letter we know you are better than that. We trust that all of your future leaders, and you yourselves as leaders, will serve America, its citizens and its Constitution, in a way that honors us all.
