No, yes and new.

Klein is correct. There are been strong forces that have made a lot of progress in taking control of most of the wealth of the world. In the US, these forces hide behind “capitalism,” but really, they favor oligarchy. What she was predicting was Trump, and we got him. We are fortunate he was so inept.

Trump’s goal was to join the ranks of the few oligarchy who control the world. They include, Putin, some of the rich Middle Eastern Kings, and the owners of oil, gas, mining, and other energy and basic industries, along with those with billions in inheritance.

But Trump lost the election, despite all his attempts to cheat and act like Putin. Attempts that are still continuing. The country has become very aware of the inequities and most of the country hopes to do something about them. However, the old guard, which is now the whole Republican Party, seems willing to do almost anything to hold on to power.

But, there is a new, younger, and richer group of people who are taking control of the power structure. Klein does not account for this. They come from tech and biotech. They are changing how everything is done in the world, including communication, trade, banking, who can get married, and how to have a baby. Also, one thing that Marx didn't predict, was that most “workers” will no longer be necessary. Robots, Ai, driverless vehicles and talking bots, are quickly replacing them. They are cheaper, don’t need benefits, don’t complain, and never get tired. Also, China, another very large authoritarian country poses a new kind of threat to the rest of the world.

We now have 21st Century problems that need brand new solutions. Using 20th Century models doesn’t fit any more.
