Not quite. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. It is certainly true that the Trump mob has taken to the streets with taunts and obscene, often racist threats. There has been one serious attempt at violence against any government officials, and those people were arrested before they did any damage. There also have been several mass shooting that seem to be related to Trumpism, at places of worship and shopping malls, and a Walmart. But, since the election almost all of the threats have been either from unruly, but non-violent crowds, or of the usual anonymous trolls.

I agree that these behaviors much be shut down, and the threats much be taken seriously, but I don’t fear an armed rebellion. It is a big jump, even for the big 2nd Amendment crowd from chants to shooting people. The election is now over a month old. People are still screaming and threatening, but no shots have been fired. The election went well, and is going to stand.

The our institutions of American Government are going to be restored. There are many changes that are coming to police departments, even as the police unions resist. If any armed gangs of “Patriots” do take to the streets, every state has a well organized, and well armed militia, called the National Guard. I think those thugs know how brief their rebellion would be. It would be tragic, and a terrible day for democracy if there were to be such an event, but I don’t think it would generate a national uprising.

We have to navigate the passing of Trump, the coming of the vaccine, and the reviving of social activities and the economy. When that happens, most of the rowdy discontented folks will calm down and begin to enjoy their own lives again.
