Reagan started the “war on drugs.” He and Clinton used it to arrest Black people. It is clear that this attempt to stop addictions has created more problems than it solved.
Americans spend billions of dollars to obtain drugs. The DEA spends billions trying to stop them. The drug sellers make billions of dollars. They also spend billions in bribes in Mexico and the U.S. They also kill thousands of people. The corruption goes right to the top.
The U.S. has to establish clinics that will allow people to take the trips they want without judgment, and where they can be supervised and also deal with their underlying causes if they wish. This approach has worked in Europe, especially in Portugal:
The Portugal Drug Policy allowed for a broad range of services to work together and effectively serve their communities. These groups from pharmacies, health, psychiatry, housing, social work and employment had previously struggled to pool their resources and expertise.
Why aren’t we doing that in the U.S: money and racism.
