The basis of your article is correct, the Democratic leadership, and many of their biggest donors did not want Sanders as their nominee. Some of them were threatened by his “socialist” policies, but also, many thought he would be too easy for Trump to defeat, and that he would bring other candidates down with him.

You skip some very important factors. First, America has basically a Center-Right electorate. It is only after the Conservatives lead America into a crisis that the country elects a Democrat. Sadly, but predictably, almost every Republican President has caused a crisis. Trump has been a constant crisis, mostly of his own making. The virus has shown clearly how incompetent he really is. Most of the country feels a desperate need to defeat him.

But to defeat Trump means that the Dems have to win the swing states. It is doubtful that Bernie could have done that. The Dems took over the house with moderates in the suburbs and progressives in the cities. They need the moderates to win the swing states.

Also, Bernie never got the votes. If he had continued to get 35–40% or more like he did in Nevada, he would have been the nominee. But his support was not deep. “The Party” did not have much difficulty shifting 60%+ to Biden, everyone’s third choice.

The priority is that we need someone who can unite the country and save it from degrading into the total corruption and fascism that we are experiencing now. Biden is a placeholder. He is running on a very progressive platform. He will bring in some kind of universal healthcare. He will put a woman as his heir apparent.

It’s time to get over Bernie, defeat Trump and rebuild an America that we all want to live in.
