The filibusterer debate is only necessary because the representation of the Senate is already so out of whack.
More than half of the U.S. population now lives in just nine states — meaning a large swathe of the country is represented by just 18 senators, and “less than half of the population controls about 82 percent of the Senate.”
The Republicans are a minority party with a majority influence to begin with. The use of the filibuster just greatly increases that. The idea of two Senators from every state, no matter what the size, was put into the Constitution to entice the slave states to join the union. We have bee suffering for that decision for over 250 years.
