The old guard, the people who feel entitled to power and corruption, do not let go easily, anywhere, ever. They feel so entitled that crushing dissent is always part of the plan.

That is what is happening here in the US. The people who want to hold on to their greed and corruption are now resorting to violence. These people are not mediocre. They are selfish and cruel, racist and misogynistic.
