The “old normal” had all of these problems. But some basic things have changed. The US, and the world, is going through a difficult period of readjustment. Whether we are in Revolution 4.0, or moving to 5.0 doesn’t matter. Technology has changed everything. It has led to a forced changed in lifestyle for everyone. It has also led to migration and the destruction of the climate.

But there has always been a dominant class and an exploited class. For millennia, the idea of ‘equality” applied only to white men of property. This goes all the way back to Aristotle. The New Deal didn’t include Black people, nor did the GI Bill (you weren’t here then).

True equality, for everyone, is a very radical idea. Getting anyone to care about other people who are not related to them, and may even look and smell differently, has never been done. Women in power is freaking a lot of people out.

I am encouraged because just this week, the big deal corporate people and big deal lawyers have formed groups to protect democracy, including all the people that Tucker Carlson thinks don’t deserve to vote. We’ll see.

I have been mumbling almost incoherently in response to life's problems for a long, long time. Contact me at djbermont@gmail.com
