There are signs that Americans are seeing what his happening. Many people are choosing to not rush out into the streets or open up businesses. But, if they can’t get unemployment benefits because their business is not officially shut-down, then their choices become much more difficult.

Trump has turned into Jim Jones. He is more than willing to ignore sickness and death as long as the stock market rises and his rich friends stay rich. But, maybe as the sickness totals rise into the millions and the death totals rise through the hundreds of thousands, people will notice that there is a problem with his thinking.

Maybe they will notice that many people couldn’t afford to get sick, even before the virus, and now more hospitals are running out of money. Maybe they will notice that there is no job security in America, unless you run a huge corporation that kept nothing in reserve, even though you just got a big tax cut. Maybe people will notice that even when our economy was “The Greatest in the History of the World, 45% of the workers couldn’t afford a $400 car repair bill. Do people see that some jobs are coming back from China, but nine out of ten of those jobs will be now done by robots?

We are living in the 21st Century. We never established a new normal for that, and now there is only chaos and confusion, surrounded by sickness and death. That leaves everyone terrified. But our President tells us that danger has passed, and by August we will be back coughing all over each other in Fenway Park.

Do people really believe that? Do they care?
