There was a time when Terry Gilliam was really funny. He, with the group, were clever, satirical and disruptive. But time seems to wear everyone down. Shaq can’t play basketball any more, but he knew when to quit. This piece wasn’t funny, clever or original.

I am a White male, almost as old as Mr. Gilliam. I had to work very hard, and I made a good living. But really, I came from a stable family. They sent me to college. I played by enough of the rules to get by. If I was a woman, or one of many minorities — the college I went to, a very respectable one, had 1% Black students, I would have had to work a lot harder, and I still may not have achieved what I did.

Also, I had sex with women. I feel very privileged for that. None of the women complained.

— — except now, sometimes, my wife of many, many years complains, but that’s different and it’s none of your business.
