This is exactly what the GA, TX, and AZ laws are meant to do. They are designed to get rid of the bipartisan, independent, election committees that monitor the pols and the count in each district, and replace them with people appointed by the Republican Legislature. They are written this way because Trump got angry with a couple of counties in GA that would not “find him a few thousand votes.” Now, they will have people who will do that. They had been doing it that way in GA for 140 years until the Voting Rights Act, and they did it again after 2012 when Roberts stopped the supervision.

It took Stacey Abrams, and many others working with her to make voting fair and accessible. When that happened the Republicans lost. They will lose again in any fair election so they feel they need to change the rules and find ways to make it difficult for Black people to vote — such as no voting on Sunday, few drop boxes in certain areas, and letting the Republicans decide which votes count, among other things.

That’s why they are referred to as “The new Jim Crow.”
