To say that McConnell and his crowd had reasons to slow down the Obama judicial nominations is turning a blind eye to reality. McConnell made it very clear from the beginning that his job was to obstruct everything Obama attempted to do. He didn’t show reasons to reject the judges, he wanted to keep the seats open. Reid finally took the risk of ending the filibuster on judges, but not the Supreme Court. Then McConnell did his famous coup de grace and wouldn’t even have a hearing for Obama’s Supreme Court nominee for nine months. Now, some Republicans are nervous because that some guy is going to investigate their role in the invasion of the Capitol.

If you trust that if McConnell gets to run the Senate, and he has a Republican in the White House again, that he won’t get rid of the filibuster, then you haven’t been watching McConnell very long. McConnells legacy in the Senate will be that he paid off his debts to his biggest donors, got rich, and turned the Senate into a graveyard for legislation.

The Dems ought to get rid of the filibuster and pass H. R. 1, so that voting in federal elections can be universal and standardized and not plagued by the hundred of voter suppression attempts that the Republicans need to stay in power as a minority party.

We are living in a very tumultuous and dangerous times. The freedom to have valid elections in the US is being undermined in many states. The Supreme Court has at least four and maybe five people who seem to want to keep America as a hyper-capitalist, white, christian county. Three of them were appointed by a lunatic president who thought they would make sure he could stay in office. They didn’t, but it was closer than it should have been.
