We are and we must. The good thing about all of this chaos is that it has become very clear what will happen if we don’t.
So, what do we actually do?
I heard someone say, “Let’s build back better.”
Just another slogan. What does it mean?
We have to start with things people can accept and not be afraid of. We have to build a solid base of fundamental values.
We do it by working to create a country that more people want to live in. We work with the people we have elected to get things accomplished, things that the country wants and needs — real equality and justice for all; a better tax system, infrastructure repair and expansion: affordable, accessible healthcar; good education, an atmosphere of tolerance, with less conflict. Negotiations. Cooperation.
We openly and loudly call out those who have sold their souls to Trumpism, or just to keep the 1% happy.
We work hard to combat the lies, rumors and conspiracy theories that poison the well that the community drinks from. Part of this is ensuring that everyone gets to vote in a free, fair and secure election, not just rich white people. The election rules should be clear, apply to everyone, and be enforced.
We approach those who are persuadable with openness, kindness and money to keep them alive. To those who still seek power at the expense of democracy we fund scorched earth campaigns, much like The Lincoln Project. We keep showing who the bad guys are and why. prosecute their crimes, not just in court, but also in public opinion.
Also, we prosecute Trump. If a strong case can be made that he abused power, that he accepted bribes, that he put personal gain over the country’s interests, his crimes should be made public, and he should be punished. Otherwise, it will encourage more criminals to seek to take over the government. We need to show that Trump was an aberration and an abomination that cannot be tolerated.
