We just saw, in VA, that saying something like that loses elections. Right now everything is uncertain. In times like this people watch out for themselves. The divisivensess and aggressive rhetoric have made people take cover. The other sides' strategy is to destroy trust, and it is having an effect.

You can put your hand out, but the other side may only laugh and call you weak.
