Welcome to the world. Your profile says that you are a realist, but a least in this post, you are much an idealist and humanist.
Capitalism does provide many people with meaning. Great satisfaction comes when people feel that they have met the challenges that capitalism poses. If you can support yourself, and support a family, by doing enough of something that society rewards, it gives your life meaning. If the work you do makes the world safer, healthier, or happier, then your satisfaction will be greater.
However, since around 1990, America shifted into hyper-capitalism. Money became not just useful, but the goal itself. How the money was acquired mattered less. Greed, exploitation, hoarding, and selfishness overwhelmed the values of fairness, cooperation, and trust.
Society became very unbalanced and hostile, full of fear and more violent.
Many people are realizing that we need to find a way to make society more caring and balanced. It will take a lot of work by a lot of people. Once lost, trust is very difficult to reestablish.
