Welfare programs that require strict income requirements, often including some kind of a job, drug tests, and constant reviews, along with food stamps that can only be used for certain items, are designed to be demeaning to all who apply. That is not the way to her people out of poverty.
Part of the problem is that the ultra-capitalists need a lower class to work for low wages. That is slowly changing as those jobs are being replaced by robots. Also, as you mention, they don’t want to pay taxes so they call everything a government does “Socialism.”
I would like to see a study done that involves giving every family that makes under $55K a year an additional $1000 a month. Try it for five years. See how many people won’t need it after that.
