Yes! Very insightful. and frightening.

What you are seeing is that happiness and self-image is not based upon actual lifestyles; it is based upon RELATIVE lifestyles

Of course people’s lives are much better than the lives of slaves and serfs, but even apes and bonobos get angry when they know something is unfair.

And now, with the social media pressure you describe, people are growing up with so much pressure, so much competitive feelings, especially about trivial things such as make-up, bling, or insane macho-crap. Then this gets combined with toxic relationships, and bullying. I am very worried about my ten year-old granddaughter who is beginning to get caught-up in all of this, even though she is smart, beautiful and talented and has all the advantages in the world. She is often sad and angry about how difficult it is to know how to act, and whom to trust. Her parents just tell her to ignore it, but she can’t.

And so many people get left out, left behind, divorced, isolated, and then lose their jobs or get hurt. They world doesn’t care. It seems to be run by the powerful and the greedy. They fight with each other over power and money, and everyone else is collateral damage.
